About the trial

The BEready pilot study is nearing completion. The main study is imminent and BEready is now looking for 1,500 households to take part in this long-term study.

BEready stands for "Bern, get ready" and was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study aims to show how we can better help people in the canton of Bern to prepare for the next pandemic.

All single or multi-person households with adults are welcome. Children and pets are also welcome, but not a requirement for participation.

Participants will have blood samples taken (at the elbow) and tests carried out. This can occur at the CIU facilities at sitem-insel Bern or participants' homes in the region. Dogs and cats are examined at the small animal clinic in Bern or by a local veterinarian. BEready then regularly monitors the occurrence of infectious diseases in the participating households. In the event of illness, participants complete a short online questionnaire and send a nasal swab or fecal sample from their pet to BEready. In addition, a small blood sample (finger prick) is taken at home once a year, and another online questionnaire is completed.

How DCR supports the trial

CIU study nurses recruit participants and execute examinations and blood samples at the CIU premisses or participants' homes.
